| | This formation, as near as I can tell, is known
as Calico Tanks.  It's basically a large, petrified sand
dune that has become different colors of sandstone. |

              | | If you look really
carefully, you can see the moon. |

              | | Las Vegas is in the distance |

              | | Here is a closer look at the biggest of the red
rocks.  Note the little specs on the wall. |

              | | Here is a closer look at those little specks...er...rock
climbers.  This gives you an idea of the scale. |

              | | |

              | | Note the different layers of
rock (gray is limestone, the other stuff is sandstone (I think).. |

              | | |

              | | These burros were brought here by the Spanish
(non-native) and are "kept under control" by the BLM. |

              | | This could have been a better picture, but right
at this point, my battery blew out so I wasn't able to get a
good picture of the burro IN my window, just like the previous
                picture. |

              | | |

              | | This kid found himself behind the burro - which
I'm given the impression is NEVER a good idea. |

              | | Pretty tame burros |

              | | The challenge with these sunset shots was the
exposure time required.  Most were taken with the camera
                sitting on the car. |
