Maple Grove Forest Preserve

This is a beautiful forest in the middle of Downers Grove. It is a PRIME spot for birding in the spring.

Suggestions:

Brush between parking lot and ball field has been good for Connecticut Warblers.

The "Magic Bridge" is on the north side of the preserve and is a very good spot for warblers. Black-throated Blue has been seen there more than once.

Inspect the low swampy spots for interesting birds.

Tufted Titmice are often heard in the spring.

Directions

To get to Maple Grove Forest Preserve, located in Downers Grove, take Interstate 355 to Maple Avenue. Go east until you see the entrance on the north side of the street. The trail leads north from the parking lot. When the trail comes to a junction, take the left path and this will lead to the Magic Bridge. (Q-8)

Facilities

Outhouses by the parking lot.

Other notes

The trails are good for bicycling, so watch out. The preserve is very popular with civilians.
